Bonne Fin

Dec 27th

This is a tree that the locals feel is the home of evil spirits, they will not trim it, let alone cut it down, they won't even pick up the sticks and branches that fall...  it is approx. 65 ft. around.
This is someones bank account.  A pile of rocks that  sets out front of your place is what you will use to make a cement house when you get the rest.  You start by saving rock, when you have some you build a layer then save some more.
This is one of the guest houses, Shiela Moser lives here right now as she coordinates hospitality and some renovations (among other things) for the hospital project.
Hospital Lumiere  is a 120 bed hospital located up on top of yet another mountain... at a location called Bonne Fin .

Nurse's station

This is ER.
Apostolic Christian World Relief was asked to take over the management of this hospital with in the last year or so, it has opened another mission opportunity for those in the medical field.  Many of the patients had returned home with their families for the New Year Holiday.  ( New years is the biggest holiday here because they celebrate that they have survived yet another year of life in Haiti. )

The patients there have family there as well that stay and care for them (bathing them ect) while the staff does the nursing/ Dr  care.  These two children were the only kids here. We left them some toys, candy and magic wash clothes.

The renovations are a huge improve improvement, it will be so wonderful for these people when the renovations are done - it will take a while...

the well for the area with the small hydro pump house in the backgound

The compound of buildings are sourced by a hydroelectric pump for electricity. Not exactly clear on how it works, but this little house is at the top of the mountain with the well that runs eternally (so they think, since the locals don't turn it off...) there is a large pump house below where a waterfall turns turbines that produce electricity for all they need and some of the mountain community.  Fairly reliable water and electric, two huge resources.

They are praying for a Doctor and especially a pediatrician.  If they could open a peds ward people would definitely come and the people of that area wouldn't have to travel so far for care (would get care sooner possibly). After the hospital tour we hiked down into the canyon to the waterfall, it was hard going down and hard coming up, it was pretty down there... the kids and Craig went jumping into one water pool.

More little ones following us along the road....

Hot    Sweaty    ...yea....
